OBJECTIVES OF GROUP (Draft)

1. To form a colloborative group to define methods and
procedures for testing Desktop Commercial Off The Shelf
(COTS) systems for Year 2000 compliance and define and
document workarounds and solutions.

2. To attempt to reduce duplication of effort and
identify unnecessary and time consuming tasks.

3. To produce and distribute deliverables within a
specific time frame.  (Interim estimate - 1998-05-31)

4. Information concerning members or their employers
that may be disclosed in the course of group activites
shall be confidential.  Official WG2 reports and
publications will be released in the name of the group,
shall be deemed to be in the public domain, and the
Anonymity of the Contributors shall be upheld.

PROGRAMME OF WORK

1.     Basic information.
1.1     ISO8601 (SA equivalent ARP010) information to
        be distributed. An explanatory powerpoint
        presentation to be compiled and distributed by
        CA.
2.     Deliverables
2.1     Protocal document
2.1.1    Definitions of compliance
2.1.1.1   Definition of "Compliant" and "Ready"
2.1.1.2    IEEE draft standard to be placed on website
           and distributed. Other definitions to be
           distributed.
2.1.2    Framework for testing hardware
2.1.3    Framework for testing software
2.1.4    Guidelines for reducing work
2.1.4.1   Example: Test "a" version of a BIOS, not not
          have to test every individual machine.
2.1.5    List of test dates
2.1.6    Proof of testing
          Specific methods
          Quality standard
            Draft "Test Protocol" document required
                (investigate cooperation with IEEE WG)

2.2    Communications within WG2
          Email listserver "SIGWG2" to be created
          Minutes and correspondence via email
          Members to send email message to
           slug@fast.co.za for inclusion in
           preliminary distribution list.
