To: AFRIK-IT@LISTSERV.HEANET.IE With the notable exceptions of Kenya, Ghana and South Africa I have not been able to contact anybody in the other African countries who is active in Y2k work or is prepared to be active in Y2k work. If you can assist with email addresses of such persons or bodies please reply to me direct (instead of burdening the rest of the list with this detail). We are now at a critical "point of no return" stage in Y2k remediation. Unless African countries become active (very quickly) in averting this problem, the current estimate is that there is a .7 probability (70% chance) of economic damage occurring. I am looking for volunteers from any interested group. Individuals, Church Groups, Professional bodies, Chambers of Commerce, Schools, Universities, Small Business, Medical institutions, Local or Central Governments, Utilities or Parastatal organisations. The Cinderella Project will attempt to supply volunteers with information and assistance in facilitating and setting up Action Centres in affected countries. This is a last ditch effort. If we don't get it done now, there will not be enough time to fix the problem. Some say it is too late already. The results of inaction are potentially very serious. I cannot honestly say that there are life threatening implications, but there is very strong evidence that disruption to infrastructure and economies could occur. I appeal to all Africans to assist in this final attempt to ensure that the Year 2000 problem is dealt with in a businesslike and satisfactory manner. We cannot "do nothing". We must take action. Please Help. Thank You. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chris Anderson email: slug@fast.co.za Y2K Cinderella Project webmaster@cinderella.co.za http://www.cinderella.co.za Striving for Year 2000 Compliance ------------------------------------------------------------------------
